The Story of Saint Elisabeth of Hungary:

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary is revered as the patron saint of Saint Francis III. She was born a princess, but life wasn’t easy for the young royal as her mother was murdered when Elizabeth was six years old. After a prearranged marriage to Ludwig IV, Elizabeth turned to prayer for comfort and happiness. Together they raised three children, one of whom became a nun and abbot. They use their wealth to create a better life for the poor and the sick. During her marriage, Elizabeth did countless good things, and despite her royal status, she lived a simple and devout Christian life.

After becoming a widow at the age of 20, she used her dowry to rebuild a hospital for the sick. Then she was also allowed to join the convent as a nun. Her holiday is November 17th. She is the patron saint of bakers, beggars, brides, charities, and against child deaths. Dedicated to serving the poor, after her husband died, she became a Franciscan institution of higher education and started a hospital where she worked herself. Narrative imagery often depicts her dressing in Franciscan habits to serve the poor
